My dad would be so chuffed to see these peaches! They’ve really come along nicely. It’s only taken about 8 years … since I took over the reins.

Start with pruning the tree heavily to reduce height.
Next, feed the soil well.
Follow with annual spraying for the dreaded leaf curl.
Don’t forget to water, then pray the bees come and visit.
Marvel at the flowers that turn into fruit.
And with any luck, you get to eat it!

Of course, netting is key. And what a job it is. This year, we covered individual peaches with off cuts of mesh curtains and the netted bags you buy oranges in. Both worked!! I keep saying I’ll buy a Flip net which look incredibly easy to use. Their customers sound happy.

The tricky part is knowing when to pick the fruit. I pressed gently onto the peach. There’s a slight “give” which means it’s ready.

There’s joy of seeing this through to completion!!

Life lived well. Surrounded with loving people, generous in spirit. As one lady said, it’s just like being invited to lunch with family. Who doesn’t want that?

When what you get back are smiles and laughter, the experience is relaxed and memorable for all. Delicious food and wine is the cherry on top.

Although in this case, the cherries were in the salad. Along with rockmelon, pickled purple cabbage, heirloom tomatoes and loads of freshly picked herbs 😋.

Our two last classes for the year over the past two days (I won’t say weekend because it wasn’t the weekend but it felt like it) were the best way to end on a high. Thank you all.

Time for a well earned break. See you from February 2026.

Our Italian Summer Lunch at the Factory Bar was an enormous success and joyful experience.

There’s something about fresh food prepared in a simple way, full of flavour and maximum effort to bring out the most in authenticity. And people don’t just taste it, they can feel it.

Giving service like this is something you want to do. I’m very blessed to call this “work”.

Apart from two cooking classes left for 2025, this special lunch event wraps up a very busy year. A heartfelt Thank You to everyone who attended throughout the year, especially those who keep coming back. Your support is amazing!

What an amazing afternoon we had with this group from @panalitix - we were honoured to host their group activity, with an element of friendly rivalry thrown in, complete with a sit down dinner.

Our learning space was transformed into the dining area whilst they enjoyed a break on the sunny deck. With much laughter, conversations and drinks to be shared.

A huge thank you to my sister for keeping the kitchen flowing smoothly over the four hours. And I just had to include a photo of the oven she cleaned the next morning - have you ever seen one so clean?! All ready to go for next week’s corporate class making pizza!

Who would think the humble potato could bring such joy and a great meal to the table?

Saturday’s class of 7, most of whom have been to our other classes, learnt the art of making potato gnocchi from scratch.

Various tips and a hands on demonstration followed by everyone practicing means it’s retained more readily.

The best part - other than sitting down to a delicious lunch together - is you’ve already got what you need in your kitchen. Simple utensils and items such as a colander, fork and knife.

I’m always saving bits of this and that in the kitchen. From fresh and dried herbs, to seeds from my dad’s fruit trees (which will be planted one day!), to flowers I might discover on my walks.

The herbs are so handy!! Dried, they literally last forever. And if I’ve got excess, I’ll crush them into my kitchen food bin to camouflage any interesting aromas emanating!

I would have been a person of interest in Salem 😳😂.

I’m impressed with how quickly oregano grows and spreads out. We planted it on that awkward hill that was hard to mow about three years ago.

One day it’s a bare patch of dirt, blink and it’s full of aromatic and lush green oregano!

The grass still gets through but Nature is so clever. The useful herbs (I haven’t found a use for grass yet!) crowds out the unsightly grass and provides us with a heavenly scent. And shade for our resident blue tongue lizard!

Not to mention a wonderful herb we use in our cooking. Freshly picked or dried, it elevates anything it goes on.

Another excellent class today. Second class for some, about 6th for another!

Learning the basics to making fresh pasta and a really good tomato based sauce. Might sound simple and it is. But learning in a hands-on face to face way is so much more enjoyable than following a recipe book or watching it online.

Plus everyone has the opportunity to ask questions in a relaxed setting and we always give extra tips that can be tried again at home.

This plant has been transplanted twice - the first place was so attractive to ants, they moved in. The second place wasn’t looking good and I was ready to pull the plant out. There wouldn’t be a third relocation!

But they must hear us and think “crickey, I’d better impress them!”. Suddenly new growth has appeared on a couple of branches. So it’s time for some TLC.

I’ve dug in our food scraps straight into the soil and covered it all back up (forgot to take that photo!). Mulched and watered. Now let’s see it thrive.
