Step back in time to when life was slower. When mechanised kitchen gadgets were yet to exist and pasta was 100% made by hand. My mother demonstrates how to make Ferretti, so called because they are made by using a long thin piece of iron aka knitting needles!

About the Event

Back in my mum’s day, the women would gather and spend a few hours making pasta, bread and biscuits.

Providing much more than sustenance, these occasions were nurturing to their overall wellbeing. It’s what kept them going especially when their lives were dominated by hard work and not much of a voice to express themselves.

A total of 10 women will join us to make a few types of pasta by hand including Cavatelli, a short hollowed out pasta shape, and Maccheroni, similar to Ferretti but quite unlike the Mac and Cheese type you buy at the supermarket.

Our aim is to create a comforting space for everyone to feel at home, letting go of our stresses for a short time and just being ourselves.

We will start at 10.30am giving us plenty of time to practice these handmade shapes, with Italian snacks as we go. Lunch will be served around 1pm, followed by an Italian dessert and a good espresso coffee!
